Sage Parashara is one of the great sages of Hindu tradition. He is the author of Vishnu Purana and has also authored/narrated many texts on Vedic Astrology and Vedic Sciences (He is also the author of Parashara Smriti, which is the foremost lawbook for this KaliYuga and which should be followed because this book is told ‘Kalau Parasharau Smritah’ which means in Kaliyuga remember the rules laid down by Parashara), his most popular book, very famous nowadays’ Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra’ known as BPHS is considered his most outstanding contribution to astrology, this book is so great that it is labelled as the gospel book of astrology and his system is so famous that nowadays Vedic Astrology is only Parashari Astrology (The system of Astrology propounded by Parashara) for 95% of astrologers worldwide.

However, it is very rarely known that sage Parashara does not tell everything written in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra as he has himself mentioned many times and has also admitted clearly that he has told the opinion of many sages of yore, the current book of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra contains many rules and principles of other sages which when not segregated and understood carefully creates confusion and make the contribution of Parashara lose it’s charm and accuracy, for this simple reason many times we find Parashara’s statements contradictory and many times we go into the web of confusion and lose the greatness Parashara wants to grow and imbibe on us (astrologer’s).

Along with this issue in the present text of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, there is one book authored by Parashara on mundane astrology as well which is lost; he also authors one book on agricultural astrology, which is rarely studied. There are two more manuscripts or versions of Parashara Hora, which are unpublished and in possession of Shubham Alock Singh.
